THE BRIEF
Tasked with crafting a 30 second ad for both cinema and social media platforms, we faced the exciting challenge of showcasing a diverse range of new and existing Barbie products that took viewers through a series of distinctive Barbie-themed environments, incorporating design styles from the Barbie movie. Collaborating closely with the director, we broke down the pre-production requirements to devise an efficient approach and schedule for fabrication and stop-motion animation production.
OUR PROCESS
Drawing inspiration from the style and set designs of the Barbie movie, we meticulously crafted large-scale environments and sets, inspired by locations in the film. We utilised motion control camera equipment to elevated certain shots with a dynamic cinematic quality, enhancing the visual appeal of the ad. The real dolls and accessories were animated by our specialist animators, who breathed life into the colourful world with attention to detail. In collaboration with digital artists, additional background details and VFX were integrated to enrich the final sequences. The combination of practical sets, motion control cinematography and digital enhancements resulted in an appealing stop-motion ad that captured the essence of Barbie's filmic universe.
THE RESULTS
The advert was released alongside the Barbie movie in selected cinemas throughout the UK and across all major social media platforms.
Significant engagement was seen on YouTube and the ad continued to effectively promote Mattel's latest Barbie product range available at Smyths Toys throughout the summer months.
