Leftovers
THE BRIEF
Tasked with creating a memorable short film for the holiday season, our objective was to entertain social media viewers with a short heartwarming narrative, and to showcase the characterful, handcrafted nature of our work.
Despite the challenges of a short production turnaround and concurrent commercial projects at the studio, we embraced the opportunity to explore efficient ways of integrating digital techniques into our puppet animation process and bring some festive cheer to the studio.
OUR PROCESS
From the outset we poured the studio's creativity and technical expertise into bringing ‘Leftovers’ to life. This christmas tale was co-devised, with storyboards, animatic, character design, puppet fabrication, animation and post all done in-house - and with a careful attention to detail to ensure the personalities of our vegetable characters shone through. Using complex filming techniques, the puppet characters were shot separately from the backgrounds, allowing them to be scaled down and then carefully composited back into the life sized background set. This innovative approach not only gave us greater control over character performance but also pushed the boundaries of our animated content production capabilities.
THE RESULTS
Released just before Christmas day across our social media, the stop-motion short was met with enthusiasm from our followers. The endearing antics of our vegetable protagonists elicited laughter and an abundance of comments. Our experimentation with complex filming techniques proved invaluable, demonstrating our studio's commitment to leveraging a diverse array of tools in the creation of handcrafted animated content.
