Who is the Biggest Predator?
THE BRIEF
We were tasked with creating a 30 second ad for social media distribution, featuring a wide range of Jurassic Park and Jurassic World inspired toy products manufactured by Mattel and LEGO Group.
Working from detailed storyboards and other pre-production materials, we collaborated closely with the director to determine production requirements and carefully plan the most efficient approach and schedule for the stop motion animation shoot.
OUR PROCESS
Given the technical challenges of animating small-scale figures, we opted for specialist, purpose-built animation rigging to allow greater control over the toys and achieve characterful performances. To create an immersive Jurassic-themed Smyths superstore, we shot against chroma screens and collaborated with a CG artist to seamlessly combine stop motion animation with digital 3D backgrounds. Via thorough pre-visualisation and the marriage of practical and digital elements, we crafted cohesive and iconic imagery that brought the toys to life in a dynamic and engaging way. Animation was shot in our fully equipped studio, ensuring we had the resources and control needed to deliver high-quality results.
THE RESULTS
The advert achieved significant engagement on Smyths Toys' YouTube channel, capturing audiences with its playful yet action-packed narrative.
The seamless integration of practical stop motion animation with digital VFX not only enhanced the visual appeal but also streamlined the production process. This approach allowed our animators to focus on achieving the best performance from the toys whilst delivering a cohesive and great looking final result.
